Network Configuration

With Millions of Network Settings, How Can You Check for Problems?

Our experience from working with hundreds of operators around the world is that Network Configuration is one of the most highly variable processes from operator to operator. By and large, the process tends to lack strong change review and analysis controls. As a result, temporary changes are not always backed out, initial settings for new equipment may not match vendor-specific guidelines and changes which are not in-line with best practices or mandated levels may be implemented.

Furthermore, some changes which are made in line with best practice guidelines may turn out to negatively impact network performance. Given these potential issues, it's no surprise that many operators cite non-optimal physical and soft parameter configuration as one of their main sources of network problems.

Audit Network Configuration Settings with Actix.

To address this challenge, Actix has created a solution for analyzing Network Configuration based on our ActixOne optimization platform. ActixOne automatically loads configuration data exports from network equipment OMCs, network configuration databases and physical site databases (including planning databases).  Issues may then be pro-actively identified by analyses that scan through configuration settings and compare these to best practice thresholds and rules. By taking a pro-active approach to identifying configuration issues, issues may then be addressed before they impact customer experience.

In addition, issues may be identified by reactively comparing network performance before and after a configuration change. Potential issues may then be visualized in maps, charts and tables to determine whether the issue warrants a change. As part of this analysis, a full historical record of past changes may be used to provide perspective.

By ensuring that best-practices are uniformly applied across the mobile network, our solution for analyzing Network Configuration addresses one of the most common causes of network problems leading to poor customer experience. Since abnormal changes can be pro-actively detected before they cause issues, customer experience can be significantly improved vs. a reactive approach.
