Neighbor Lists

Neighbor List Optimization is Fairly Simple. So Why are Neighbor Problems Still Prevalent?

Neighbor list optimization is one of the fastest, easiest ways to improve network performance. In spite of this, neighbor problems are one of the most common causes of data & voice network problems. One of the main reasons that neighbor issues stubbornly persist is that the data required to perform neighbor optimization is fragmented and in many cases proprietary by equipment provider.

Neighbor optimization requires physical site configuration, neighbor list configuration and either live network neighbor statistics or drive survey data (typically used during the pre-launch optimization phase only). As a result, vendor-specific tools, or spreadsheets and scripts with limited capabilities are all too common. The bottom line is that neighbor list optimization is often a manual and tedious process.

Another challenge is the offline nature of many neighbor optimization tools and scripts. These offline tools require a user to launch the tool and search for problems. Under the intense pressure of day to day fire-fighting, often there isn’t time to pro-actively address neighbor issues until they become a big problem.

ActixOne provides a rich, interactive interface to validate proposed changes and to alert users of detected problems.

Automate Neighbor List Optimization with Actix.

We offer two approaches to rid your network of neighbor issues, from initial launch to mature operation:

  • Desktop – Our industry leading drive test post-processing software, Analyzer, is ideal for pre-launch optimization of neighbor lists, providing recommended changes to optimize neighbor lists based on drive survey data. During the pre-launch phase, drive survey data is typically the only way to perform neighbor optimization due to the lack of traffic on the network.
  • Platform – Our on-line, multi-source optimization platform, ActixOne, is designed to pull all the data necessary for neighbor list optimization across sources including neighbor cell statistics reports from the radio network OMC. ActixOne analyzes this data to provide recommendations to optimize the neighbor lists, including proposed additions and deletions. ActixOne also provides a rich capability to review all proposed changes, including map and table views, and includes the capability to automatically detect neighbor problems and pro-actively alert optimization teams.
